Don't misunderstand - these are all fine classic children's books. My problem is that I thought the collection contained ALL Noel Streatfeild "Shoe" books. After all, directly under the title, Oxford Children's Classics (10 book set) is the sole author name: Noel Streatfeild. I was so disappointed when they arrived - it was supposed to be a Christmas present and I wasn't able to give it because the child had already read many of the books in this collection other than the ONE "Shoe" book included in the set. I should have returned it but kept it instead, broke the set up, and am saving it for grandchildren. Please enhance the description to clearly describe the collection as an offering from various authors including, but not solely by, Noel Streatfeild.

Can't get enough of the series. I can't get enough of the DVD and the books are so much better. The foxhunting section is so descriptive, I loved it.

This set was absolutely perfect for my 9 yr old granddaughter. They gave her a variety of stories and has kept her interest even though they were not "picture books". She is now on her 4th book in the set , Black Beauty, and is saving the Shoe book for last.

A moment in our past that remembers time to just think and enjoy the view. Nice story.
I saw the mini-series of Flambards on Masterpiece Theater many, many years ago and was enchanted with it. Finally I saw an opportunity to purchase the DVD! Then I found out it was from a series of books for young adults and ordered the entire set, which I treasure. I don't know why I never heard about them when I was growing up, but I am so happy to have them in my permanent library now.
Having newly discovered K.M.Peyton through reading her middle grade novel Fly-By-Night, I was totally ready for Flambards, which lived up to my expectations and fueled my excitement for MORE of K.M.Peyton's work. Her writing is realistic, fast paced and FULL of sensory details in each situation throughout the book. You are THERE, especially during the hunt scenes (horses, hounds, spills, speed, grit, and flung-up mud, leaf-mold, water---and you can FEEL the horse beneath you as your heart pounds and you hope you stay on)! Oh. And the antique airplanes that figure in this story, would be fantastic to see. (If you watch the Flambards film series, you'll see the planes). There's plenty of human interest as well. Again, details bring the family situation(s) to life. If you are at all drawn to 1910 England, old family homes, fine horses and true-to-life characters, do read Flambards. Obviously, I loved it and will read more of the Flambards books in the series.
